The wrapped "white elephant" gifts

December's Teen Social Night

Announcing our second annual TEACH "Christmas" Social Night.

We had such a great time with the white elephant gift exchange last year -
so we are doing it again. If you missed the fun last year, be sure to
attend the December social night.

Please note a few changes from our typical social night events.

Date: Saturday, December 5th - Note that we are having this on a Saturday
evening.

Time: 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm - Note time change - kids must be picked up no later
than 9:45 so the building can be set up for Sunday services. We are starting
the evening 30 minutes earlier than usual.

All participants must be TEACH members - 7th - 12th grade - with a signed
code of conduct on file. If you have not turned your form in, please
contact Mrs. Bachert - 841-6308 or Mrs. Gaskin - 830-0377.

What to bring: 2 liter bottle of pop, a snack to share, and a white elephant
gift - wrapped nicely :o) You do not want the item to be identifiable, so
wrap it well.

We will play a game with the gifts, do not share what you have brought with
the others when you arrive. We had a nice variety of items brought last
year. You do not need to go out and purchase a gift for this party. Many
kids brought items that they had at home and didn't want anymore. "Gifts"
can be purchased from the dollar or thrift stores.

White elephant gift items can be useful or just fun - be creative.

A prize will be awarded for the best wrapped gift and one will be awarded
for the most creative or "best" gift given.

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Bachert or Mrs. Gaskin.

We are looking forward to a fun evening - hope to see you all there!

Standardized Testing

TESTING--Stanford Achievement TestStanford Achievement Testing Deadline is Friday, November 20, 2009

The Stanford Achievement Test, a Christian-based academic test, will be offered to homeschool families in April 2010. The test includes the Otis Lennon--OLSAT-- for grades 3, 5, 7 and 10. OLSAT is an ability-type test and will compare the student's results of each subtest to other students with the same ability. This test gives parents the ability to identify a skill area in need of additional attention.

Each family who would like to have a child (or children) tested will need a parent to participate during the week of testing. This may be in the area of helping administer the tests or working in the nursery. A date and location will be announced at a later time.

Order forms have been sent out to all TEACH subscribers. Orders will be accepted on this form only. Payment will be due at the time of ordering. The cost is $30.00 per child testing. This fee includes the cost for mailing the results back to the parents. Checks are to be made payable to Rhonda Gaskin. The order form and payment must be received by Friday, November 20, 2009, and mailed to Rhonda at 2904 Atchison Circle, Lawrence, KS 66047. Checks will be cashed the week after Thanksgiving.

Order forms may be duplicated for a friend, but if so, please read the notice at the bottom of the order form.

Should you have any questions about testing, please contact Rhonda at (785) 830-0377 or email to rhondagaskin@hotmail.com

Homeschool Swim

swimming
Hi TEACH members!!! It is time for another year of swimming!!! This is a special note to all of you because we are going to do things differently this year. We want to bring the swimming group back to TEACH members only. As parents we all would like our kids to be able to swim, relax and have fun without any other issues getting in the way (for example behavioral issues and immodest swimsuits reflecting poorly on TEACH). We believe by restricting it to TEACH members only can continue to provide this for our kids.

To make this affordable we need your help. The more TEACH families that sign up the less the cost will be. If you know anyone who has done swimming in the past but is not a member of TEACH please send them to the TEACH blog and they can get more info about the group and also the form to join.

The months are Oct.-May. It will be the first friday of each month unless the public schools are out and then it would be the next possable friday. Right now it looks like Nov. and Jan. are the only months that may be a problem.

The deadline for signing up is Aug. 31. After I have everyone signed up I will be able to give you a cost. I will keep you informed as the sign up goes along on what the cost is at the moment. If we cannot get the cost down to around $25 or less per family then we will not have swimming this year.

Spread the word and help us to make this a great TEACH swim year!!! Please contact Lana Groundwater (ptg109@yahoo.com) to sign up for swimming.

Thanks,
Lana
